I don't think we're big spenders. We rarely eat out, we don't have cable or go to the movies (okay, so we might go once a year), we've gone on one vacation in 4+ years of marriage, and I turn off the lights as I leave the room. Haha.
Seriously, I read articles about saving money, and I get a little discouraged, because we already do almost everything these articles suggest.
And yet, I have been inspired recently to spend even less than we already do, in order to save more.
Once a month, I calculate how much money we've spent that month, and then I separate the amount of money we've spent into categories. Of course there are utilities, medical bills, tithe, gas, groceries...
Then there's just one "big" category, where everything ELSE goes. That category's just called Miscellaneous.
My goal for the next 31 Days (except that I technically started yesterday...) is to CUT two areas of our spending--our monthly grocery bill and this Miscellaneous category.
How I'm attempting to cut our grocery bill is to grocery shop every 2 weeks, at Aldi if possible--and I'm meal-planning again. With a vengeance.
As for the miscellaneous category? As I already said, we're not big spenders. But still, there are little luxuries here and there that we don't need. I'm still going to buy little things here and there, but for the next 31 days, I'm going to be writing about it here... which means I'm going to be accountable... to my computer and this blog, at the very least. ;)
[Did I mention that my husband was excited about this? He completely agrees that we don't spend an excessive amount of money, but he was still in favor of this little experiment...]
I'm going to try to post every day, and I might take a break on the weekends (at least Sunday). Since I won't know how much I spent, or what we ate (since those are the two categories I'm focusing on) until the end of the day, I'll either post about the day before, OR I'll post in the evenings.
Hopefully each blog post will be short and to-the-point. And hopefully they'll be encouraging and inspiring, too!
