And then there are ConTRACTIONS (39 weeks post)

Yup. I skipped 38 weeks, and went right on to 39.

Why? Because I *just know* that I'm 39-ish weeks, instead of 38-ish weeks. (And because my original due date places me at 39 weeks. So there! ;))

I was going to call this post "The Waiting Game," but recently, I feel like I'm doing more than just sitting and waiting around: I'm having contractions like a wild woman.

Something changed with my body about 3-4 days ago. I went from sleeping amazingly all night long to waking up--feeling fully awake--in the middle of the night, because...

A. I was feeling super sick. Like, I-need-to-concentrate-on-not-throwing-up sick.

B. I was feeling super hungry. As in, Wow-my-stomach-feels-completely-empty and I'm starving.

C. I was having a very hard contraction.

D. All of the above.

What I've been doing is rolling out of bed, getting a bowl of cereal, and retreating to the couch, with a blanket and pillow. All of these nights--happily!--I've been able to fall back asleep. So I'm not complaining! :D

But here's the explanation for my post title: first there are, what I would call, contractions. Haha. They're the ones referred to as Braxton Hicks. Your tummy gets really hard, your back hurts a little, and then the unpleasantness goes away. B.H.s never really move past "unpleasant," at least not for me.

Then there's the second kind of contraction. This is the kind I've been experiencing a TON OF the past few days. Sometimes they're 45 minutes apart, and all day long. They make me pause in my walking--just for a second--or take a deep breath. Occasionally it hurts enough for me to think, "A couple more of these, and I'm calling Matt to come home!" So they're the middle category. They feel like the real deal, except they're not strong enough, long enough, or close enough together.

Then, of course, there's the third kind...which I'm getting pretty excited about. ;) No, seriously, when you've had a bunch of the #2 category, you start longing for #3 (at least I do :)). Because I know that #2 won't bring forth an adorable Little Feller, but #3 will.

So there's my weekly update. :)

  1. What a good attitude - to look forward to the #3 type of contractions! Hopefully, as with your other two pregnancies, these #2 contractions are really paving the way for an easier delivery. We too are looking forward to meeting the new little guy! I am praying for you.
